The Haleyville Lions traveled to Hamilton to take on the Aggies this Thursday for the last regular game of their seasons. With Haleyville coming in at 7-2 and Hamilton at 9-0, both teams knew that they had clinched playoff spots starting next week but that took nothing away from this rivalry match-up. Unfortunately, the Lions just could not defeat the Aggies on their home turf, losing 6-26. Haleyville’s only score came early in the second half with Tanner Ivey running it in on second and goal from the one. That was made possible by the 40+ yard throw from Ivey to Jonas Dodd, who earned Lion of the Week honors with the outstanding catch. Video
Next week, the Lions travel to Huntsville to take on J.O. Johnson in the first round of the playoffs. Kickoff will be at 7:00 pm.
Friday night had some Haleyville fans headed in opposite directions with two Varsity teams playing at the same time in different locations. At home, it was Senior Night and the Lions Football team was playing host to West Limestone in an Area game. Meanwhile, the Lady Lions Volleyball team, having already won their Area, had their first game of the Super Regionals at the Von Braun Civic Center against the Alexandria Valley Cubs.
The Lions at home scored first against West Limestone with a touchdown pass from Tanner Ivey to Matt Smith early in the first quarter. West Limestone took the lead early in the second quarter but Ivey ran in a 1 yard touchdown at the end of the half to put the Lions back up 12-7. The second half belonged to the Lions with a third quarter field goal, Smith with a 16 yard touchdown and a fumble recovery to end the game with a 29-7 final score.
The Lady Lions on the road came out strong with a 25-17 win to start the match against Alexandria but the next 3 games all went the other way, falling 23-25, 20-25 and 24-26 to end a terrific season for Haleyville Volleyball. We are proud of all of you and everything you acomplished over the season. Roar Lions!
The Haleyville Lions headed north again this Friday to take on Rogers, looking to spoil Homecoming for the Pirates. Both teams played solid defense until Conner Kiser went under center, threw a lateral to Tanner Ivey who found Dakota Rushing for the long touchdown pass with :37 left in the first quarter. Early in the second quarter, the Lions mishandle the ball in their own endzone allowing the Pirates to score a safety, making the score 6-2 Haleyville. Just before the half, Ivey calls his own number and runs in for a touchdown on 4th and goal.
Rogers opens up the second half with a long touchdown pass to make the score 12-8 but Ivey finds Matt Smith twice in the endzone to post a final score of 26-8. The win guarantees the Lions a playoff spot. Be sure to check out some video from the game by clicking the YouTube link on this page.
Next week is Senior Night for the Lions as West Limestone comes to town. Game time is 7:00pm.
