Lions Lose to the Wildcats

The Haleyville Lions were at home this Friday playing host the Central Florence Wildcats, an area game with both teams coming in at 3-0. The Wildcats won the toss and received which led to a punt. The Lions took the ball down and kicked the field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 3:10 left in the first quarter. Central Florence drove down the field and with a long run was able to get into scoring position to take a 3-6 lead with 1:51 left in the first quarter.

The Lions were unable to move the ball on their next possession and punted the ball back to the Wildcats that only needed one play, a 62 yard run, to reach the endzone. With the 2 point conversion, Central Florence was up 3-14 with 10:26 left in the half.  The Lions answer with a long drive, finishing with touchdown run by Heath Self from 4 yards out. With the failed 2 point conversion, the Lions trail 9-14 with 7:00 minutes left in the half. Central Florence scores on their next drive off of a 40 yard pass with 4:06 left, but makes 2 huge penalties to put the Lions in scoring position. Dillon Posey catches a pass from Conner Ivey for the touchdown with 1:51 left in the Half, bringing the Lions back within 5 with a half time score of 16-21.

It is not until late in the third quarter before the next score, putting Central Florence up 16-28 but Haleyville answers back immediately with a long touchdown pass to Brady Sherrill. The Wildcats put the game away with one more score and Central Florence wins it 23-35.

The Lions travel to Winfield next week. Game time is 7:00pm.
